Packing calculator

Choose the number of days, your bag and how you pack. The calculator suggests a cube set that fits the space, adds pouches in one colour and shows how full the bag will be.

    Total for the list —

Suggested loads assume adult clothes folded or rolled. Your bag’s real capacity can differ from these round numbers.

    How the calculator counts

It starts from the clothes you need: about 2 litres a day for regular packing, 1.4 litres if you pack light and 2.8 litres for cold-weather clothes, counted up to ten days (after that most people wash or re-wear). Cubes are never filled to the last millimetre, so it looks for a cube set with about 1.6 times that volume, from the band that matches your number of days.

Soft cubes squeeze into the corners of a bag, but they should not take up more than about 90% of it, so there is still room for shoes and a toiletry pouch. If the clothes need more space than that, it suggests the largest set that fits plus a compression cube — and tells you that a bigger bag may be the better answer.

    Good to know

    • Bag sizes are round numbers. Check the capacity of your own bag in litres; it is usually on the label or the maker’s website.
    • Airline cabin limits differ. Check your airline’s size and weight rules before you fly.
    • Everything the calculator suggests can be changed: each product links to its own page, where you can pick another colour or size.
